Guga Denies Sargsian in St. Pete
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:
Gustavo Kuerten: "For me it's a great moment and it came in a good time too. I
needed this result to keep my motivation going on. I felt comfortable on the
court. It was a great day. I couldn't expect anything better then this."
"You always hope you can play this way in a final but it's not often that it
happens like this. I had a great semifinal match yesterday, but I think I
played even better then yesterday. I think the experience of playing in other
finals helped me. I could stepped up a great rhythm. It's tough for the guy to
maintain on this level and once I broke him on 5-4 I really go to a stage that
I felt everything easy going with so much confidence. I was trying as hard as
I can and everything was going."
Sargis Sargsian: "I think that after Moscow it was definitely my second best
week. I played well I guess, but Kuerten was too strong for me. I didn't
expect him to play the way he did. I was surprised by the way he served. He
served perfectly and had many aces. I think my mistake was that I should have
advanced to the net more."
"I'm not sure if I could beat him today even if I played my best match. Kuerten
has a very uncomfortable backhand. You never know were the ball will go."
