The Boston Celtics [team stats] kept largely mum today about an electronic
billboard on Interstate 93 South in Medford with an ad for Powerade and one
of its most recognized endorsers, Miami Heat superstar LeBron James.


“Our team sponsor is Gatorade, so we would prefer Gatorade,” said team
spokeswoman Heather Walker, declining to comment further about the notion of
“King” James taking up Hub space in the wake of Celts star Ray Allen
signing a three-year deal with the Heat franchise.


The billboard, located about three miles from the Celtics’ home court, TD
Garden, proclaims: “Congrats LeBron. A championship has a nice ring to it.”
 The sports energy drink is manufactured and marketed by The Coca-Cola
Company.


A spokesperson for Coca-Cola could not be immediately reached for comment.
The Heat knocked the Celtics out of the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals after
seven games before claiming their second championship – James’ first –
 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
