Morissette Records Song For "Dogma," Talks About Being God
What does singer Alanis Morissette have in
common with the late comedian/actor George
Burns? Not much, probably, although both have
played the role of God in films.
While Burns played the Big Guy in the "Oh God"
movie franchise, Morissette will be doing her
own take on that Divine Character in the
upcoming Kevin Smith film, "Dogma," which
finally has a release date of November 12 (see
"Kevin Smith Confirms Alanis Is In
'Dogma'").
The film, which also stars Chris Rock, Ben
Affleck, Salma Hayek, George Carlin and Smith
himself, has endured a bit of bashing at the
hands of the Catholic League for it's violence
and alleged anti-Catholic leaning. Morissette tells
the New York Post that "Dogma" is "very
funny," and speaking about her character, said
that "I think Kevin's view of God is that God is
us," adding that her version of God "runs in a
really tiny amount of time, the gamut of
emotions, vulnerable, happy, disappointed,
indifferent, compassionate."
The singer also flexed her musical muscles for the
film; besides acting, she also recorded a new song, "Still,"
for the flick, which she describes as a God's-eye
view of the world.
At first Morissette, a former
child actress, wasn't jumping at the chance the
return to acting, but she changed her mind once
she saw the film's script (see "Alanis Talks
About Playing God For Kevin Smith"). Even
when she decided to be in the film, there was the
matter of working the shoots into her busy
schedule. Kevin Smith spoke to the MTV Radio
Network about how the singer made time for the
movie, in between recording, touring and
traveling around the world.
"It was kind of a downtime between蔠she
had recorded the first few songs for her
album, and she had just gotten back from
her trip to India, she took a little time off
and shot the flick, and then went back and
finished up her album. So the schedule
worked out really nicely." [RealAudio]
