In August of 1989, the Eurythmics embarked on what was to be their final
tour. the " WE TOO ARE ONE " World Tour took the band out on an exhausting
schedute of appearances that would by the final night of the tour in Rio.
leave both Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart both physically and mentally
burnt out. It was time to call a halt to the monster that had become the
Eurythmics.
Annie first announced that she would be temporarily retiring form the music
business for at least the nest two years. Backstage at the Brits ceremony
in Febuary,1990. she told reproters, " I'm off to have a baby and go solo "
and that is exactly what she did!
Annie spent the rest of the year recording demos and writing new material
at her home studio. Before giving birth to a besutiful baby daughter named
Lola, in December.
Relaxing at home and playing the part of the proud mother, gave Annie
new influence in writing material that throughout 1991. would take the
shape of her critically acclaimed first solo album " DIVA ".
In order to promote the album, Annie returned to the stage to offer sparking
reditions of tracks from " DIVA ", mixed with updated versions of Eurythmics
classics. From the ashes of one of the most influential groups of the nighties
has emerged one the best female solo singer of the nineties. It goes with out
saying that heaven must be missing an angel.
