Pretenders Give Fans Long-Awaited "Amor"
The Pretenders make a return to store racks this week with
"Viva El Amor!" It's the band's first album since 1995's live
offering "The Isle of View" and its first collection of new
material since 1994's "Last of the Independents."
Frontwoman Chrissie Hynde told MTV News that these days, she
finds putting together an album to be a relatively relaxing
activity... a notion suggested by the time taken off between LPs.
"This is, like, my hobby, so you know, I look forward to it
like someone else might look forward to pulling out their
stamps every couple of weeks," Hynde said. "I always have a
bunch of unfinished songs. I don't think of it like a labor or
anything. Nobody's pressuring me to do it. I like to think I'm
back by public demand, you know?"
The Pretenders will be hooking up with this year's Lilith
Fair on July 13 for a one-month run and will be mounting a
headlining tour later this year.
