Erykah Badu cites spirituality in success
(Launch) - With her latest movie role garnering critical acclaim and
Oscar buzz, neo-soul singer Erykah Badu (Erica Wright) has returned
the public spotlight. Badu has evolved into a powerful force among
her fans, who have purchased more than 3 million of her albums.
During a recent interview, Badu shared a message for people seeking
spirituality. "As a youthful elder, I'll just say that if you really
want to know yourself, you have to be still," she said. "And you have
to understand that you have to believe in yourself. And when it seems
like it's not working out, it's not because you're not believing in
you, it's because you don't believe in God. So you just have to
really believe in the creator."
For her breakthrough role in the new movie "The Cider House Rules,"
which opened last weekend, Badu stars opposite former labelmate Heavy
D. and acclaimed thespians Delroy Lindo, Tobey Maguire, Paul Rudd,
Kate Nelligan, Charlize Theron and Academy Award-winner Michael
Caine. Based on the best-selling novel by author John Irving, the
movie was directed by the internationally acclaimed Lasse Hallstrom
(of "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" fame) and was filmed last October
in New England. The movie is touted as a classic story about Homer
Wells, a child without parents who is raised and mentored by his
orphanage's doctor.
