Everything But The Girl set for 'comeback' After three years since the release of Everything But 1996 album, 'Walking Wounded', Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn are to release the follow up on 27th September. Entitled 'Temperamental', it will be their ninth studio album. Having spent much time in the last few years club-DJ-ing Ben says on the band's official web site - "I was proud of the new ground we broke with Walking Wounded but I saw that we wanted to get to the next level - similar grooves and detailed songs but finding room for deeper, fatter sounds and beats. Regular DJing opened my ears to such possibilities." Tracy says "When it came to the vocals, I encouraged Ben to experiment with my voice more, new sounds, dubbier ideas, but without losing sight of that intense one-to-one feeling we got on Walking Wounded. Ben would often trawl through my ad libs and old takes, and sample additional notes and sounds, chopping them back into the tune for new counter-rhythms." During 1996 and 1997 Ben played drum n bass and freestyle DJ sets across America, took over Howie B's slot at West London's Sunday-nighter at 'The Paradise' in Kensal Green, spun drum n bass at London's Bar Rumba and hosts his own Sunday night session 'Lazy Dog', at the Notting Hill Arts Club. Back in 1994, EBTG collaborated with Massive Attack on their album 'Protection', with Thorn's vocals on the hit title track, and Massive reciprocated on EBTG's album 'Amplified Heart' which yielded their massive international hit, 'Missing', (remixed by DJ Todd Terry) which reached number two in the USA. The duo are due to tour the UK in November, the dates for which are, so far, as follows: 6th November - Academy - Manchester 8th November - Town and Country Club - Leeds 10th November - Civic Hall - Wolverhampton 11th November - Octagon - Sheffield 12th November - University - Cardiff 14th November - U.E.A. - Norwich 15th November - Corn Exchange - Cambridge 16th November - Guildhall - Southampton 18th November - Forum - London Ben also produced two tracks for the current album by singer/songwriter Beth Orton. The album, entitled 'Central Reservation', was nominated this week for the Technics Mercury Music Award and includes the songs 'Stars All Seem To Weep' and the title track, for which Ben performed and programmed. -- gender is just an excuse, relationship shouldn't just be an excuse, love is often an excuse, although sometimes these excuses are all we have to hold onto, death is the reason and living is the celebration - Beth Orton -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: h183.s99.ts.hin
