SpinART Reissuing EBTG Ephemera
For those under the misguided notion that Everything but the Girl
have always been one step above utter mediocrity, SpinART would like
to present you with some evidence to the contrary.
Before the techno dance styles of recent years,
Everything but the Girl specilaized in pop music--
a light, jazzy, twee indie-pop, with lite-jazz flourishes.
Though the late 80's and early 90's saw the band heading into
Adult Contemporary/Pop Dance hell, both Ben Watt and Tracey Thorne
had slightly established solo careers even before EBTG;
Ben released an album entitled North Marine Drive,
and Thorne released an acoustic solo EP of folk music entitled
A Distant Shore, both of which went to #1 on British indie charts.
Both solo records were reissued on May 8th.
The reissue series will continue on July 3rd,
when SpinART will release the two records Thorne recorded
with her folk-punk band the Marine Girls, Lazy Ways and Beach Party.
These records, long since out of print in the United States,
will hopefully quell the appetites of club kids everywhere, and provide
a little cash for some hits of ecstacy when they sell them back a week later.
