Review: Eurythmics bring 'Peace' to New York (InfoBeat) - The Eurythmics played it cool as they ran through a career-spanning show that was both a worthwhile cause and reunion for Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Touching on everything from their early radio hits to Lennox's solo material to their recently reunited offering, "Peace," the duo simply sat back and allowed their powerful mix of American soul and British pop fare ignite Madison Square Garden Tuesday night in a show benefiting Amnesty International and Greenpeace. Singer Lennox and guitarist Stewart took the stage in matching camouflage fatigues and shimmering, silver jackets, and immediately launched into "I Want It All" from "Peace." In true diva form, Lennox paced the stage as she belted the song's lyrics, passionately raising her arms and clenching her fists as her sexy alto proceeded to steal the show. As the night progressed, though, it seemed the pair was lacking in unity. There did not seem to be a synergy between the former lovers through the early evening, up-tempo numbers which included "Missionary Man," "Thorn In My Side" and "When Tomorrow Comes." It was not until the night's first ballad, "Save the World Today," which featured Stewart's guitar as the lone accompaniment to Lennox's sultry vocals, that the pair seemed to connect. It was moments like this, which showcased Stewart's melodic guitar work, that truly made the evening special. Lennox and Stewart wisely presented numerous of their early material in this fashion as well. By stripping away the synthesized keyboard samples one is left with simple, airy acoustic jaunts which produced many of the night's standout performances - notably a stellar rendition of "Here Comes The Rain Again" during their first encore. About half way through the set the night began to heat up as a piano was wheeled out for a makeshift jam session. Their backing band, including three talented back-up singers, left their assigned positions and moved to center stage for renditions of "I Love You Like A Ball And Chain," "Would I Lie To You?" and "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves." Following their soulful interlude the pair introduced the audience to their new single, "17 Again," and produced one of Lennox's rare emotional moments. "This is a special song about him and me," Lennox shared with the audience as she introduced the song. Following their set, which ran a little over an hour, they returned for two well received encores, the first featuring "Here Comes The Rain Again" and Lennox's hit "Why." Returning to the stage for their final encore, Lennox urged the audience to join the charities which benefited from the night's performance and wished the crowd "Sweet Dreams" with their 1983 synth-pop classic. - By Stephanie Patafio, Sony Music -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: h80.s127.ts.hinet.net
