Courtney Love To Play Mrs. William S. Burroughs
Hole singer/guitarist Courtney Love will star as
Joan Burroughs, wife of novelist William S. Burroughs,
in the indie film "Beat," according to the Hollywood
Reporter. The author of "Naked Lunch" accidentally
shot his wife during a game of William Tell gone awry.
The flick, produced by Donald Zuckerman, Andrew Pfeffer
and Alain Silver, is based on the romance between
Lucien Carr and Joan Burroughs. Norman Reedus of the
film "8mm" will play Carr. The film begins shooting
July 26 in Mexico City.
*****
Courtney's Got the Beat
Courtney Love largely made a name for herself as Nirvana front man
Kurt Cobain's wife. It's apropos, then, that the musician-cum-actress
has found her niche in Hollywood portraying the significant others of
famous men.
This July, the Hole frontwoman tackles the role of Joan Burroughs in
the indie Beat. Joan was married to Naked Lunch author William Burroughs
while conducting a love affair with Lucien Carr, an intellectual credited
with introducing Burroughs to beat poets Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg.
Norman Reedus (8mm, Mimic) has signed on as Love's leading man, according
to The Hollywood Reporter.
Love's breakout performance in 1996's People vs. Larry Flynt was as Althea
Leasure, wife of the titular pornmeister, played by Woody Harrelson. She'll
next be seen in Man on the Moon playing Lynne Margulies, Andy Kaufman's
girlfriend, with Jim Carrey channeling the doomed comedian immortalized in
countless Taxi reruns and the R.E.M. song "Man on the Moon."
