Jewel Records "New" Singles For Film, Charity; Prepares Christmas Album
Jewel has been fairly ubiquitous since the
release of last year's "Spirit," and her fans will
be glad to know that she won't be making
herself scarce in the coming months either.
The singer has recorded a new version of her
"Spirit" track "What's Simple Is True" for the
upcoming Ang Lee Civil War drama, "Ride
With The Devil," which opens November 24.
Jewel will be co-starring in the film with Skeet
Ulrich and Tobey Maguire (see "Jewel Talks
Teeth, Readies For Big Screen Debut").
Jewel will also be releasing a new live version
of "Life Uncommon," a song also originally from
"Spirit," as a single to benefit the charity Higher
Ground For Humanity's Clearwater project.
The song, recorded during rehearsals for
Jewel's "Sessions At West 54th Street"
Christmas special, features accompaniment by
a small orchestra and choir. The single will be in
stores on October 12, and the special will air
nationwide on PBS in December.
Higher Ground For Humanity's Clearwater
Project is an organization dedicated to bring
about positive changes for people suffering
from a lack of clean drinking water and to
improve the quality of drinking water.
"What's Simple Is True" and the live "Life
Uncommon" aren't the only "new" tracks from
Jewel on the way: on November 2, the Alaskan
singer will be releasing "Joy - A Holiday
Collection." The album will contain a number of
Christmas tunes, including "Silent Night," "Joy
To The World," "Ave Maria," "Rudolph The
Red Nosed Reindeer," a special "Christmas"
version of "Hands," and eight other seasonal
songs (see "Jewel Sets Sights On Christmas
Album").
