Me'Shell Ndegeocello Leaves New
York Bitter
Aug 13, 1999, 3:30 pm PT
Recently finished with her stint on Lilith Fair,
Me'Shell Ndegeocello kicked off a brief
cross-country club tour with a wonderful
opening show in New York Thursday (Aug.
12) night. Ndegeocello played two sold-out
sets at the intimate Joe's Pub, spell-binding
listeners with a preview of songs from her upcoming album,

hands of critics who may chide her for doing
something different. "You talk too much about
politics and religion," she mocked of critics.
"Well?" she answered rhetorically, letting the
music speak for itself.
The night's first hour-and-a-half set was
played to mostly press, friends, and industry
insiders, who all clapped politely and enjoyed
the proceedings well enough. The second set,
however, which started at 1:30 a.m., took on
a looser, more downtown Bohemian vibe,
