Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin Set Joint U.S. Tour
Singer/songwriter package also includes pianist
Bruce Hornsby, guitarist David Lindley.
Contributing Editor Christopher O'Connor reports:
A group of veteran singer/songwriters, including blues
guitarist Bonnie Raitt and folk-rocker Jackson Browne,
announced plans Monday (June 14) to tour the U.S. together
later this summer.
They also promised onstage collaborations as an element of
each concert.
"The idea is to weave in and out of each other's solo sets and
play together as a band," Raitt said in a statement from the
Kathryn Schenker Associates publicity firm in New York.
Known for her slide guitar expertise and playful, heartfelt
vocals, Raitt has scored hit songs, including "Something to
Talk About" (RealAudio excerpt), and is a Grammy winner
for her 1989 album Nick of Time.
The tour also includes pianist Bruce Hornsby, folk-rock singer
Shawn Colvin and guitarist David Lindley. No dates have
been announced, but Stephanie Shepherd, a publicist at
Kathryn Schenker Associates, said the artists' managers are
working to confirm dates and venues. Shepherd said the tour
would run through August and September and would roll
through major cities.
Colvin, who won a 1997 Grammy Award for Best
Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Sunny Came Home"
, said through publicists that she was excited about the prospect of
touring as part of the package. "When I heard about this band,
I couldn't wait to go see it. Then, I realized I was in it," she said.
"Now I don't know what to do except pinch myself."
Raitt, whose most recent album, Fundamental (1998),
featured such songs as "Blue for No Reason" , said in her statement
that the idea for the tour was born last year after she, Browne
and Hornsby played a series of relief concerts for victims of Hurricane
Mitch, which ripped through Honduras this past fall.
Jackson Browne enjoyed his most successful period in the
'70s and early '80s, co-writing songs with the Eagles and
earning hits of his own with "Running On Empty" and "Tender
Is the Night." Hornsby and his band, the Range, won a
Grammy in 1986 for Best New Artist. Lindley, who has
worked as a session guitarist with Browne, is best known for
his work with the band El-Rayo X.
