Recordings of Cambodja concert to be released in April on cd's
As part of its effort to raise public awareness, the VVAF started
Artists
in Support of the Campaign for a Land mine Free World, which has so far
held two all-acoustic concerts with performers such as Emmylou Harris,
Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Bruce Coburn, Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl
Crow.
Folk and country singer Emmylou Harris, who won her 10th Grammy this
year
in the contemporary folk category for her album ``Red Dirt Girl,''
spearheaded the effort to bring the artists on board. Recordings of the
1999 concert will be released on a series of CDs in April by Vanguard
Records.

Release of grammy cd (with sheryl's performance) on the loop due to
Napster
National Academy Of Recording Arts And Sciences president and chief
executive Michael Greene told Reuters, "The day following the Grammy
Awards
we were in the recording studio remixing all of this stuff with the
intention of putting it out (as a recording), only to find that all of
the
audio was already up on Napster, and there had been millions of
downloads."
Greene suggested also that the planned commercial release of the
performance might now be in jeopardy due to the circumstances. "We are
reevaluating in light of Napster giving it away to hundreds of
thousands of
people," he told the news agency.
Note: The recording academy is now in a lawsuit against Napster to have
all
the grammy performances, including Sheryls, removed.

Tribute to Sun records due this summer (cd and a docu, with hopefully
Sheryl footage)
The soundtrack to a Sun Records documentary being directed by acclaimed
filmmaker Bruce Sinofsky, the album features not only McCartney but a
stunning lineup of rock & rollers, including Bob Dylan, the Who and
Elton
John, covering both famous and obscure Sun tracks.
"The Sun Records empire was built by people who put music first," says
the
Who's Pete Townshend. "There's lots of jewels in there." For their
part,
the Who are expected to record a version of a Jerry Lee Lewis hit,
"It'll
Be Me." Dylan offers a rendition of "Red Cadillac and a Black
Moustache,"
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant cover "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It," and
Jeff
Beck and Chrissie Hynde team up for "Mystery Train." Also signed on for
the
project are Mark Knopfler, Kid Rock, Van Morrison, Sheryl Crow, the
Roots,
Elton John, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart.
The documentary will include footage from the album's recording
sessions.

BMI signs overseas Web licensing deals
U.S. performing rights organization Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) on
Monday
said it signed Internet agreements with 15 performance rights groups
overseas, enabling Web sites to get a single performing rights license
covering international markets.
BMI tracks and collects fees for the performance of more than half of
the
music heard on American radio.
``If Sheryl Crow (used here as an example ed.) was singing in the U.S.
and
people were listening to it in England, our old license would not cover
the
transmission all the way through to England,'' Conlon said.
Note: ok I don't know what this really means, but I think it means that
if
Sheryl performs somewhere in Europe now, some sites have the right to
broadcast it online in the U.S. and vice versa. Before, because of the
copyrights, that wasn't possible. Now if she actually did perform in
Europe
this could be a really cool thing...
