Sixpence None The Richer Leaving Teen Scene With New Single, Lilith Jaunt
How frustrating is it to get repeatedly dissed in favor of shirtless,
singing hunks? Leigh Nash can tell you all about it.
Nash fronts the indie group Sixpence None The Richer, who
saw its smash single "Kiss Me" drive up sales of the its 1997
self-titled LP after the song was prominently featured in the hit
teen flick "She's All That" and the hormonally-charged soap
opera "Dawson's Creek."
One year later the Texan group is still riding the "Kiss Me" wave,
but it's preparing to move on. The band recently shot a video for
its next single, a cover of the La's 1991 hit "There She Goes,"
and now the group is preparing to play a number of dates on this
summer's Lilith Fair.
After playing a couple of radio shows on the same bill as 'N
Sync and 98 Degrees, Nash told MTV News that she and her
bandmates can't wait to hit the road with the more mature Lilith
circuit.
"The core audience of these radio-station festivals lately
has been, like, twelve-, thirteen-year-old girls that are
just... really excited about sweaty young boys," Nash told
MTV News. "I'm not a sweaty young boy, so it's just kind of
awkward and embarrassing at times when you're just, you
know, up there trying your best, and it's really... not being
received well." [RealVideo]
Sixpence None The Richer will play Lilith Fair through July 17.
