Sleater-Kinney Still at Work on Next LP
Wet t-shirt contest with Le Tigre rescheduled for May sweeps on Fox
Will Bryant reports:
Washington state's national treasure, the ladies of Sleater-Kinney,
are hard at work on a new studio album with producer John Goodmanson,
who previously produced 1997's Dig Me Out and 2000's All Hands On The
Bad One. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, the new album
is about "sixty percent done" and that the new material is coming out
darker -- and longer (though for short, sharp Sleater-Kinney five
minutes is practically an epic). "All Hands on the Bad One was written
very quickly and it had a certain kind of condensed, really frenetic
energy," guitarist Carrie Brownstein told The Olympian in a recent
piece. "These songs have been written over the past year, so we've had
a little more time to explore things. It's like this music has been
down a longer road." The album, still roaming about without so much as
a title, is slated (sleated?) for late August on Kill Rock Stars.
As previously reported by Pitchfork, Brownstein has been hard at work
on a full-length album with Mary Timony, her sparring partner in The
Spells. Singer/guitarist Corin Tucker took some time off to have her
first child, while Janet Weiss recorded and toured with Quasi.
Sleater-Kinney previewed some of the new songs last month at shows in
Olympia, WA and at the US edition of All Tomorrow's Parties.
Sleater-Kinney are expected to support the new record with a tour in
early fall, but in the meantime you can check out some of the new
material at a couple of live dates next month:
05-15 Washington, D.C. - DAR Constitution Hall (w/Belle & Sebastian)
05-17 Brooklyn, NY - Warsaw
