Dippers Plan Tour, Discs
Singer and band both have albums ready.
Contributing Editor Mikel Toombs reports:
The Original Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers, led by the
wonderfully eclectic singer Victoria Williams and her
husband, Mark Olson, formerly of the Jayhawks , have a new
album in the works and are planning some live dates for the
spring and summer.
"We both have finished new albums and are looking to tour
some this summer," Olson said on Monday. "Vic's album is
really great and has a mid- to late-summer release schedule."
Williams' 1993 diagnosis of multiple sclerosis
led to a tribute album, Sweet Relief, featuring
Soul Asylum, Lucinda Williams, Lou
Reed and others, and the formation of a
charity organization dedicated to helping
other musicians in need.
OHRCD 霠which also includes fiddler Mike
"Razz" Russell 霠issued their most recent
album last year. The self-released Zola and
the Tulip Tree blended Williams' distinctive
singing with Olson's playful tunes. "OHRCD
have been looking into having a label put out
their new one," Olson said. "It's called Ben
Johnson's Creek, and things could be looking
up for the Dippers. We'll see about that."
Williams' 1998 album, Musings of a Creek Dipper, included
such tracks as "Periwinkle Sky" (RealAudio excerpt) and
"Grandpa in the Cornpatch" (RealAudio excerpt).
