Woodstock '99 Album Set for Release
Less than three months after impromptu bonfires, rampaging mobs, and rape
allegations destroyed the peace, love, and rock and roll image of Woodstock '99
organizers have announced that a compilation album and accompanying video of
the historic weekend will be released on Epic Records. The lineup for the
double CD has yet to be announced, but a September release date for the project
is being eyed. "The Woodstock '99 album will capture the live energy and magic
that is intrinsically Woodstock," promoter John Scher says. No word as to
whether the video will also aid authorities in capturing any of the rioters
they are currently seeking.
The event, which took place over the weekend of July 23-25 at the former
Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y., featured performances from the likes of
Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, DMX, Insane Clown Posse, Korn, Kid Rock, Limp
Bizkit, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Rage Against the Machine, the Red Hot
Chili Peppers, and many, many more. On the final day of the show, enormous
bonfires got out of control, and an unruly mob caused enormous amounts of
damage before authorities were able to control the situation. Additionally,
Woodstock '99 was marred by at least four allegations of rape, including one
that took place within the Limp Bizkit mosh pit. At press time, one person had
been arrested in connection with sexual abuse charges.
