Lilith spirit will live on
By Rick Bird, Post music writer
The Lilith Fair spirit of showcasing women artists
will live on even when the plug gets pulled on the
festival.
That was the assessment of Lilith performers at
a preconcert news conference. Founder Sarah
McLachlan repeated her desire to end the
festival so she can take some time off.
As for future Liliths, she said, ''I don't want to
close the door on it. There's a good possibility
we'll bring it back in a couple years, or five or ten
years.''
Sheryl Crow expects the concept to be brought
back by promoters next summer, even if it's not
called Lilith.
''The great thing about this tour is it has a very
concise vision and makes a powerful statement,''
she said. ''And because of it there will be others
that will try to capitalize and capture the
specialness of the tour. There will be others that
will be great.''
Ms. McLachlan said she will not sell the Lilith
name to a promoter if she's not actively involved.
Before the concert, Ms. McLachlan presented
$11,300 to Women Helping Women as part of
the $1-a-ticket charitable contribution the festival
makes in every city. It's expected that figure will
be slightly higher when final receipts are tallied.
