Former Curve infielder Rico Washington, one of the more popular players in
franchise history and still an Altoona resident, has retired from baseball.
For now anyway.

"I would like to keep playing, but I had a long run and had fun doing it,"

Washington, who played for the Curve from 2000-02, spent more than three
months this season playing in Taiwan. He said he was recently released
after suffering a minor injury and missing a few games.
"I was leading the team in all categories; I just didn't understand it,"
Washington said.
曾於2000-02年在Curve隊打球的華盛頓，今年在台灣待了超過三個月。
他說，最近自己在受到小傷困擾並且因此錯過幾場比賽之後，就遭到獅隊釋出。

The 31-year-old Washington began his pro career in 1997 and spent more than
a decade in the minor leagues before finally getting his first shot in the
majors early last season with the St. Louis Cardinals.
31歲的華盛頓，在1997年展開他的職業生涯。在小聯盟拚鬥超過十年之後，終於
在去年的聖路易紅雀隊第一次登上大聯盟的舞台。
"I'm happy that I got there, but I wanted more time," said Washington, who
appeared in 14 games and batted .158 for the Cardinals.

Washington compiled a .278 career average in 1,226 minor league games.
He said he and his wife, Antoinette, and their children are planning to
move to Arizona at some point.

"We're tired of dealing with the cold weather in the wintertime, so it's
just a change of scenery," he said.

For now, Washington is enjoying his first taste of adult life without
baseball.

"I'm happy now just being at home, being with my family, being with the
kids, doing something that I haven't done in a long time in the summertime,"
he said. "This is the first summer I've had off since I was 15 years old."

註1：Altoona位於賓夕法尼亞州，當地有支隸屬於匹茲堡海盜隊系統的2A球隊，
