I’ll list the creatures you can be asked to fight, and where to find them.
Areas I’d recommend are underlined:


    * Wolf: Dark Woods, Barbarian Village, Wolf Cave
    * Harpy: Mist Mountains, Barbarian Village, Pirate Harbour, Ancient Temple
    * Barbarian: Barbarian Village, Pirate Harbour, Ancient Temple
    * Bandit: Bandit Camp, Ancient Temple
    * Pirate: Pirate Harbour
    * Deserter: Barbarian Village, Bandit Camp, Ancient Temple, Pirate Harbour,
                Wolf Cave, Dark Woods, Mist Mountains
    * Guard: Ancient Temple


Best chances to find each creature (Thanks to Miraculon):


      * Harpy: Mist Mountains 88%
      * Wolf: Wolf Cave 81%
      * Barbarian: Barbarian Village 67%
      * Bandit: Bandit Camp 65%
      * Pirate: Pirate Harbour 67%
      * Guard: Ancient Tempel 67%
