"Lost" loses almost 5 million viewers

"Lost" returned for its third-season premiere Wednesday to give ABC a win for
the night in both viewership and the key adults 18-49 demographic.
The drama averaged 18.8 million viewers and a 7.7 rating/19 share among
adults 18-49, according to Nielsen Media Research. It was the night's top
show in viewers and the demo, but came in below the 23.5 million viewers and
10.2/25 it received for its second-season premiere September 21, 2005.
Also at 9 p.m., CBS' "Criminal Minds" (15.2 million, 4.2/10) did respectable
business in viewers opposite "Lost." NBC's "The Biggest Loser" (7.1 million,
3.0/7) finished behind a repeat of Fox's "House" (8.9 million, 3.3/8).
Despite rave reviews from critics, new drama-thriller "The Nine" (11.9
million, 4.6/12) had a hard time holding onto "Lost's" windfall and was
topped in the 10 p.m. hour by CBS' "CSI: NY" (15.7 million, 4.9/14). NBC
barely was on the radar in the hour with a repeat of "Kidnapped" (5.1
million, 1.9/5).
At 8 p.m., ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results show won the hour easily
with 17.5 million viewers and a 4.5/13. CBS' freshman "Jericho" (10.8
million, 3.4/10) ran second against the repeat of the premiere episode of
NBC's "Friday Night Lights" (4.4 million, 1.6/5).
CW's "America's Next Top Model" averaged 5.2 million viewers and a 2.6/8 to
reach a season high in key demos, while Fox's "Bones" (8.1 million, 2.8/8)
came in third in the demo at 8 p.m.
For the night, ABC led with 16.1 million viewers and a 5.6/15 in 18-49. CBS
was No. 2 at 13.9 million, 4.2/11 in the demo.
