XD Life in Kennel Imagine you are young, innocent and vulnerable. You are taken away from all that is safe and familiar---without explanation. Members of a different species who cannot speak your language take you and walk you into a building. As they open the door, you can smell, see and hear the distress of the others there. You are afraid to go in, but you are roughly dragged through the doorway and down the corridor. Shouts and angry voices come at you from either side until you reach your cubicle. You are dragged inside and pushed back with a foot as you try to leave before the door is shut. You feel frightened and trapped. You look around. There isn't much room. There is a hard plastic bed at the back, and the cold concrete floor is wet where the metal water dish was upset as you struggled to get out. In the dim light, you look out through the wire mesh door and see hostile eyes watching you from across the corridor. It's cold and you curl up in your plastic bed feeling miserable and alone. The walls are thin and noises from outside disturb the others in the building and raise the noise levels until your ears are hurting. This brings someone in who shouts loudly and sometimes bangs a broom against the wire-mesh doors. There is no place to hide and you move back to your bed. Days go past without you leaving this small space. Every day, someone comes to clear up any mess you've made. Once you have made a mess, you have to sit in your bed to avoid stepping in it. They hose down the floor and walls, causing you to jump around to avoid being sprayed. It's the only exercise you get all day. The floor stays wet and cold for hours afterwards. Once a day, they throw in a metal bowl of a food you don't recognise and don't like the smell of. The lack of exercise, stress, loneliness and change in diet are taking their toll and by the second week, you feel terrible and develop diarrhoea and an ear infection. The vet is called and, after that, your sore ear is roughly man-handled once a day by unknown hands. You are shouted at if you don't hold still. Occasionally, people are shown around. This causes great excitement and noise that hurts your ears but at least there isn't shouting or banging with brooms. You look up expectantly but unfamiliar eyes stare in and move on. Would you want your dog to be treated like this while you are enjoying your holiday? Would you want your dog to be treated like this if anything happened to you and your dog ended up in a rescue kennel?
