Herald Sun / ***1/2
FIRST: it's better than Glitter. For this important comeback, Carey sticks
with the familiar. Charmbracelet is solid but not as definitive as
Butterfly. Predictably Carey pulls off melodramatic ballads (My Saving Grace)
and street grooves (Irresistible). But then she also covers Def
Leppard's rock hit Bringin' on the Heartbreaker, complete with bombastic
guitars. Carey shows an affinity with rap on the highlight, Clown - her
biting response to Eminem's Superhero, which implied the two were intimate.
The verdict: *** 1/2
In a word: dependable
Charm's way
MARIAH Carey is back. After the Glitter movie and soundtrack album Mariah
has bounced back with Charmbracelet. Another smooth mixture of ballads
, hip-hop beats and more ballads, the album's already spawned a hit in
Through The Rain, while album track Clown is reportedly her reply to an
Eminem diss.
