Redbirds fill two holes by acquiring Bigbie, Miles. DALLAS -- In one stroke, the Cardinals achieved three goals on Wednesday night. By trading Ray King to the Rockies for Aaron Miles and Larry Bigbie, St. Louis cleared some payroll space, found a candidate to start in their outfield and addressed their second base situation. However, the move leaves an already threadbare Cardinals bullpen short one more arm. King, who will turn 32 in January, spent two years as a Cardinal, appearing in 163 games and for the most part pitching as a valuable and trusted piece of the St. Louis bullpen. However, he had a difficult second half in 2005 and did not pitch in the postseason. He expressed his frustration over the perceived snub after the Cards were eliminated from the postseason, and his comments did not sit well with manager Tony La Russa. King said that he was not surprised to be moved. "It's a business, but as a player, you take the bright side of it as somebody wants you," King said from his home in the Phoenix area. "You're closer to the ultimate goal, and that's 10 years in the big leagues. "From the family standpoint, it worked out great. [I'll be] in Colorado with Spring Training here in Phoenix. My kids are getting older, and I can do some things at home those six weeks when I would have been in Florida. The only thing now is we've got to put a headline in the paper that I have a house for sale." It's the second trade in 4 1/2 months for Bigbie, a 28-year-old left-handed hitter. He played for the Orioles from 2001 until the middle of 2005, playing a career-high 139 games and putting up a .280/.341/.427 (average/on-base/slugging) line with 15 home runs in 478 at-bats. For his career, Bigbie is a .268/.331/.398 batter with 31 homers, 136 RBIs and 162 runs scored in 1,202 at-bats. "Bigbie is a talented young player who we tried to acquire last season," said Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty. "We project him as being a starting outfielder well into the future. His left-handed bat will be a welcome addition to our lineup." Miles, 28, hit .281/.306/.355 in 324 at-bats for the Rockies in 2005, his second full season in the Major Leagues. In 858 career at-bats he's a .289/.320/.366 batter with eight home runs and 16 steals in 25 tries. He is a switch-hitter. "Miles will be a candidate for our second base job next season or to possibly serve a utility role," said Jocketty. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051208&content_id=1278917&vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp Orz... 我真的不曉得落磯的GM腦袋裡的算盤是啥?囧 -- http://www.wretch.cc/blog/sdf019 一天一膠囊,歐啪不被當。 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.23.73
