Is Jeremy Lin Better Than Derek Jeter?

ESPN New York is currently hosting an open-voting bracket to determine the
most beloved athlete in New York. Voting for the Final Four is open until
Thursday, but the early results are staggering: Jeremy Lin is currently
beating Derek Jeter by a margin of more than three-to-one (77%-23% as of this
writing).

This is where a statistical comparison would normally be included, but it
feels silly comparing the two athletes. One is a promising young point guard
who has 12 wins as a starter. The other is one of the all-time greatest
Yankees and possibly the best shortstop to ever play the game of baseball.
Jeter owns five World Series rings, five Gold Gloves and is a 12-time
All-Star. To say that he’s an accomplished athlete is akin to saying that
Babe Ruth had a few home runs in his day.

A review of the bracket’s comments suggests that New Yorkers are, by and
large, not pleased with the results. One suggested that, “If Lin beats
Jeter, this whole bracket is worthless.” Another fan had a more visceral,
and likely the more common, reaction: “How the f*** is jeter going to lose?!?
” Good question.

The answer is clearly that Lin has an incredibly vast number of supporters,
both in New York and abroad. But more importantly, those supporters come out
in force for even the most trivial shows of support. The poll results suggest
that Lin, in just a few short weeks, has amassed perhaps the biggest and most
motivated fan base of any American athlete in recent memory. Record jersey
sales and rising ticket prices are nothing compared to Lin’s endorsement
potential, and the real surprise is that it’s taken so long for him to cash
in on it. Lin recently signed a two-year partnership with Volvo, and he
should join the NBA’s biggest off-court earners with an expected upcoming
Nike deal.

Jeter is currently behind by over 19,000 votes, so a comeback doesn’t appear
to be in the cards. And Yankees fans with heart complications may not want to
follow this one to the end – Lin projects to face closer Mariano Rivera in
the championship match. That unstoppable cut fastball might not be enough to
get Rivera out of this jam.

紐約ESPN所舉辦的「紐約最心愛運動員」的投票，活動將持續到禮拜四
然而在早之前林書豪竟以77%的得票率壓過Jeter的23%
林書豪是有前途的年輕控衛，作為先發拿到12勝
而Jeter是最好的游擊手之一，擁有5個世界大賽冠軍戒指，5個金手套，12次入選明星賽

根據投票意見顯示，對此投票結果大部分人不感到高興
有人認為這個投票是沒意義的
可能較多人的反應會是：“How the f*** is jeter going to lose?!?
這真是好問題

不論在紐約還是其他地方林書豪都獲得廣大支持
他是數週內最有價值的運動員，帶來的商業利益龐大難以估量

目前Jeter落後林書豪19000票，洋基球迷可能不想見到這種結果
林書豪在總冠軍投票時將可能面對洋基終結者-李維拉


心得：這投票真不知道誰辦的，大聯盟還沒開打，林書豪還在火熱
      辦這投票的意義到底是...
      以長遠來看，紐約之子Jeter深植紐約人心
      而林書豪，還需要個幾年深耕，不過，目前為止他已經很了不起了
