Manchester United's hopes of signing Ronaldinho took a stiff blow on Wednesday
after Paris St Germain rejected their first official offer and then suggested
that the Brazilian World Cup winner was closer to a move to Real Madrid.

The English giants were reported to have bid 耳5m for the man that they have
earmarked as the optimal successor to David Beckham 秱n terms of star-power-
but the French capital club are said to be holding out for at least ten milli-
on more.

"Manchester United have made us an offer, but the deal has not made any progr-
ess," said PSG president Francis Graille shortly after meeting with United ch-
ief executive Peter Kenyon Graille. He then added a comment that will surely
serve to discomfort anyone affiliated to the Reds, though it can be easily
down-played as a guile bargaining strategy.

"We are also in contact with another club and for the moment Real Madrid have
the advantage," he continued. "I spoke about it with (Real Madrid President)
Florentino Perez again on Tuesday."

What's worse for United, the French league financial watchdog lifted the buyi-
ng-ban imposed on PSG, which means that Paris' premier club no longer have to
sell Ronaldinho as a means for survival. The Parc de Princes side managed to
talk their way out of the DNCG's bad-book by outlining how they propose to
rid themselves of a debt estimated at ￡160m. Immediately thereafter,the French
club completed the signing of Greek international Demis Nikolaidis from AEK
Athens.

Despite all of the adversity Manchester are encountering Ronaldinho's agent
and brother Roberto Assis is still confident of some sort of agreement being
reached.

"We are very calm," he insisted, "talks are ongoing. The player is not on the
streets and he has proved his worth on the pitch so we will wait and see what
happens.

"I am certain Manchester United will make another bid. It is important that
we let the clubs find a possible solution."
