SIR Alex Ferguson believes that forgotten Brazilian Kleberson will bounce back
from an inglorious debut season for United next term.
The Reds' manager's £6.5m buy from Atletico Paranaense last summer has suffere
d a catalogue of on-field ill luck since moving from South America to England,
bringing an off-field change in lifestyle.
But the 2002 World Cup winning midfielder has returned to training with United
this week, following a two-month absence with knee ligament trouble.
Says Fergie: "Because Kleberson has been out for as long as he has, he probably
needs a good weeks' training behind him now.
"I am hopeful that once I get him back in proper training regularly then we'll
get him playing again."
Kleberson has only made 12 starts in his debut season in the Premiership, the
last coming in February against Leeds at Old Trafford.
Difficult
"It has not been an easy season for him," the United manager added.
"The good thing for him will be to get the season over with. He has come into
English football, got married, has become a father and all that can't have
been easy when you've come over from Brazil and are trying to settle in here.
"He also had a shoulder injury in the early part of the season and recently
this knee injury. So it has not been a lucky season for him.
"Hopefully, with this season behind him, he'll be much better next season for
it. I think all the young players will be."
Kleberson had to wait for a work permit before making a belated start to his
Old Trafford career with two games in August. However, in the second match at
Southampton he broke his collarbone, and missed 11 games before returning as a
substitute.
He was afforded a mid-winter break back home in the sun following the birth of
his child and marriage to his girlfriend.
However, two matches into his return he damaged his knee ligaments against
Leeds and returned to full training with the United seniors only this week.
