Ruud: I will be too old for Italy

Ruud van Nistelrooy does not envisage ending his playing days in Italy,
believing he will be too old to shine in Serie A when his Manchester United
contract expires.

The Dutch hot shot signed a lucrative new deal with the Premiership
champions last week and he is tied to Old Trafford until 2008.

He admits he has no plans to quit The Red Devils before his contract
runs out, despite his goalscoring prowess catching the eye of the likes
of Real Madrid and Milan.

Former United team-mate David Beckham has urged van Nistelrooy to follow
his lead and swap Manchester for Madrid while European champions Milan
are admirers of the 27-year-old.

Van Nistelrooy is flattered Beckham wants to reunite their partnership
at Santiago Bernabeu but has no desire to leave United.

"I thank David for his faith," van Nistelrooy told Corriere della Sera.
"He's a friend.
"But I have just renewed my contract with Manchester United until 2008
and I haven't the intention of moving.
"I think it is the same for (Francesco) Totti.
I don't see him in a different jersey than Roma's."

As for a possible spell in Italy, van Nistelrooy believes his suitors
will no longer be keen if he decides to embark on a fresh adventure.

He added: "I don't know if any club would be disposed to waiting for me.

"At 32-years-old, when my contract finishes with United, no-one in
Italy will probably want me.

"Anyway, I can't look so far forward.

"If I had to indicate a preference, I would say Milan, for Marco
van Basten, my idol and the big connection with Holland."

This season, van Nistelrooy is targeting the UEFA Champions League and
rates United's prospects of lifting the trophy on a par with the remaining
teams in the competition.

"We will try again," he continued. "But the competition is of an
excellent level.
"Milan, Juventus, Bayern, Real, Deportivo, Porto. It is not easy to choose.
We are with them and the desire is always there."
