老弗安慰老侯

Sir Alex Ferguson has greeted the news of Gerard Houllier's departure from
Liverpool with disgust.

對於老侯作嘔般的離開利物普(其實他是想來曼聯當助理教練)，老弗對此作出了回應。

The Manchester United manager is a close friend of his Anfield counterpart and
one of first to get in touch with Houllier when news broke that he was standing
down.

老弗是老侯非常要好的朋友，也是其中的第一個--當老侯下台的消息被傳出後--對此有所
感觸並給予安慰的人。(畢竟他是有心臟病的侯侯，我們的則是有心臟病的弗弗)

Ferguson fought Houllier's cause earlier in the season when the Liverpool boss
came under fire from fans, saying he had to live through the same experience
during his early days at Old Trafford.

老弗說他早期在老特拉夫的時候--對於季初老侯被球迷開幹的事件--亦有類似的經歷。
(同時天涯淪落人...其實這句話套用在老mulkc的老朋友老奎身上比較適合)

"When I was getting my criticism it was mainly one or two newspapers. I felt it
the same way that Gerard or any manager feels it. Criticism is criticism
whether it is a two inch or a four inch headline.

開幹就是開幹，不管那是佔了報章頭條版面的兩吋還是10公分(大概四吋，哈)

"Gerard has won as much as Arsene Wenger apart from the championships. He has
won a treble.

老侯和老溫贏得了差不多數目的錦標，他還拿過三冠王！

"The unfortunate thing for football clubs nowadays is that if you have one bad
result you get criticised. All the reasons are spun out in the newspapers in
different forms and shapes. I don't listen to radio phone-ins. We are in an
intolerant society. People just cannot tolerate defeat."

很不幸的老侯出生在這個惡劣的年代，一個沒有耐心的年代，人們不能忍受打擊，卻能忍
受自己國家出兵打伊拉克搞到其他人家家破人亡、英美火炮臭、路有戰死骨。

Ferguson is aware that United's success could have contributed to Houllier's
downfall.

老弗深知曼聯的成功也許是老侯下台的其中原因之一。

It was Liverpool's achievement which inspired him to take United to the top
after he was appointed manager at Old Trafford in 1986.

利物普在80年代的輝煌是促使老弗帶領曼聯在今天有如此不可一世成就的動力。

"Liverpool were the top team in the country. They were the motivation for me.
Everybody views their motivation differently. My target was obvious, Liverpool
had enjoyed such success in the Eighties. I suppose Gerard had the sort of task
I had when I had to break the mould of the success at Anfield," he added.
