How the teams compare
Dudek v Barthez
POOR Jerzy Dudek did not have a great World Cup with Poland in the summer and
he has followed up with that form for Liverpool. He has made mistakes and
seems to have lost confidence. French keeper Fabien Barthez is having a good
season for United and he is one of the reasons they have one of the better
defensive records in the country.
LIVERPOOL: 6 (out of 10) UNITED: 8
Carragher v G Neville
I THINK Jamie Carragher is one of the best defensive full-backs in the country.
You don't see wide players going past him very often, but he tends to stay back
too much. Gary Neville is as good a defender but he also goes forward a lot
more and can deliver a decent cross. He provides another attacking alternative,
so he has to edge it.
LIVERPOOL: 7 UNITED: 8
Henchoz v Silvestre
Hyypia v Ferdinand
IF Liverpool play well, it's because Stephane Henchoz and Sami Hyypia have
played well. Rio Ferdinand and Mikael Silvestre combine well as a centre-back
partnership. Ferdinand is always composed and seems comfortable with any of
United's defenders.
LIVERPOOL: 9 UNITED: 8
Riise v O'Shea
I LIKE both these players. They both love to get forward, they are quick and
they can put pressure on the opposition. John Arne Riise also takes the free-
kicks and he has a never-say-die attitude. O'Shea has done well whenever he
comes in. He reads the game well and he makes it hard for attacking players
to get past him.
LIVERPOOL: 8 UNITED: 8
Murphy v Beckham
DANNY MURPHY is more of a footballer in that he plays little passes and pops
up in central positions. He can pick out the right pass and make things
happen. And his free-kicks are pretty lethal too. But one swish of the right
foot from David Beckham and he can win you the game, either with a cross or
from a free-kick.
LIVERPOOL: 8 UNITED: 9
Hamann v Veron
Gerrard v Keane
I AM a huge admirer of Roy Keane and I expect to see the old Keane at Cardiff.
And Juan Veron slots in well alongside him. Steven Gerrard's season has been
a bit up and down and he's had to take criticism from his boss. Didi Hamann
just does a superb job.
LIVERPOOL: 8 UNITED: 9
Diouf v Giggs
NEITHER of these players are exactly high on confidence, are they? El-Hadji
Diouf has immense talent but Liverpool don't seem to know if he is a front or
wide player. Ryan Giggs has been very up-and-down by his standards, but he
bounced back well with his goal double against Juventus in midweek.
LIVERPOOL: 7 UNITED: 7
Heskey v Scholes
Owen v Van Nistelrooy
EMILE HESKEY and Michael Owen haven't been at their best by a long way but at
least Owen looked bright at Birmingham on Sunday and that goal could spark him
off again. Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy are a huge threat, and the
Dutchman is perfect for United - a real penalty-box predator.
LIVERPOOL: 7 UNITED: 9
LIVERPOOL 60 MAN UTD 66
