在愛爾蘭 Wicklow 出生的麥克肖恩在 2002 年 7 月 8 日加盟曼聯。
該名後衛在聖約瑟男孩 (St Joseph's Boys) 開始其足球生涯，之後就加盟曼聯，
成為自奧謝 (John O'Shea) 在 1998 年後首位加盟曼聯的愛爾蘭球員。
麥克肖恩是 2003 年 4 月曼聯足總青年杯決賽擊敗米德爾斯堡 (Middlesbrough)

Paul McShane
Tough-tackling central defender Paul McShane joined United on 8 July 2002.
Aerially dominant and fearless in the challenge, Paul has been likened to
Steve Bruce in his style of play.
The defender began his football career with St Joseph's Boys, before he
became the club's first Irish signing since John O'Shea's arrival in August
1998.
McShane was part of the youth-cup winning side of 2003 and has also
represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 level.
The no-nonsense Irishman was a rock at the centre of the Reserves' tight
defence before going on loan to Walsall in December 2004. Paul made just
four appearances at the Bescot Stadium - scoring one goal - before being
recalled to Old Trafford.
After playing a vital part in the Reserves' quadruple campaign, Paul joined
the first team squad for the pre-season tour of Asia and took part in other
friendlies.
In a bid to steepen his learning curve, McShane is currently on loan at
Brighton and Hove Albion under Mark McGhee. The defender's performances
have earned rave reviews thus far, and he has established himself as a
regular starter for the Seagulls.
