Alan Smith believes bringing success to Manchester United is more
important than sealing a spot in England's squad, if they qualify
for the World Cup. 


"If I play every game for United, we win the big trophies and I don't
get in the England squad, it won't bother me," the 24-year-old striker
told The Sun.


"This season is not about whether Alan Smith gets to the World Cup,
it's about United and how we perform as a team.


"If England come along then great but United is all I have on my mind."


The Yorkshireman, who came to Old Trafford from Leeds in May 2004
for a transfer fee of ￡6m, is adamant United will win next season's
Premiership title.


"We know we're good enough. In 12 months I'll be saying 'I told you so',"
he added.


"I have never won anything, so it is about time I did - and United is
the place to do it."


Smith also said that despite not being a regular in the first team since
arriving from Elland Road, he has no plans to move away from Old Trafford.


'I've been reading a lot of rubbish about how I might want to go and a
need a new challenge to rescue my career," said Smith.


"Why? I don't want to go anywhere. This club is the best in the world and
I never want to leave. 


"I love the place. People say I did not play much last season but I
started 28 games and was out for three months with an ankle injury.


"I don't think that was too bad for my first season after leaving Leeds,
who had just been relegated.


"I knew it would take time. The whole place, though, is everything I
expected and more. It's fantastic."

    費迪南德和曼聯續約陷入僵局，弗格森看來心意已絕，他不能為一個人而破例，10萬
英鎊周薪已經是隊內的最高級別，但費迪南德想要12萬磅，曼聯方面擔心，如果答應這一
要求，工資結構將被徹底破壞，紅魔甚至可能開始走向利茲的覆滅之路。


　　當年奧萊利的青年軍就是被球員的巨額工資拖跨，俱樂部負債纍纍，最終球員紛紛離
開，球隊也遭遇了降級厄運，費迪南德是當年逃離利茲的球員之一，他給老東家帶來了29
10萬英鎊的轉會費收入，算是最後作出的貢獻。


　　不過現在費迪南德又成了曼聯頭疼的問題，俱樂部高層擔心，答應其續約條件將在球
員中產生不良情緒，會有更多的大牌要求重新談判，以使自己的工資向費迪南德看齊。不
過弗格森現在最擔心的是，自己的賽季備戰會被費迪南德風波給毀了，上個賽季曼聯在季
前備戰出現了失誤，結果迎來了一個糟糕的賽季，現在弗格森不想重蹈覆轍。「他說他想
留下，那他就該行動，他知道俱樂部對他有多好。」弗格森說，顯然他也對費迪南德有點
不耐煩了。


　　隊內的另一名重要球員加裡-內維爾清楚，現在是曼聯備戰新賽季的關鍵時刻，不能讓
一些場外因素毀了。「我們需要現在就開始發力，上賽季我們的開局太糟了，過去兩年的
經驗表明，我們不能在賽季初就落後太多。」


　　同樣來自利茲，另一名曼聯球員阿蘭-史密斯則一心撲在俱樂部身上，他表示，如果
能夠為曼聯踢好球，即使放棄明年的世界盃也在所不惜。「如果我能為曼聯踢所有的比賽
，而且我們能夠贏得重要的獎盃，那麼即使我進入不了明年英格蘭的世界盃陣容，這也不
會有什麼問題。」另外，史密斯也暗示，費迪南德風波是到了該結束的時候了，現在球隊
需要做的是集中備戰新賽季。「曼聯現在每個人都該集中注意力，我們想要贏得冠軍，那
麼就得很早的重新投入訓練，全身心做好戰鬥的準備。」


　　費迪南德現在已經漸漸失去了曼聯球迷的心，在上周的俱樂部特別會員大會上，一名
球迷發言人稱，俱樂部應該加入一條新章程，任何要求10萬英鎊周薪的球員都該被告知離
開球隊，結果，他的發言引來了大廳內700多人的熱烈掌聲，很顯然，球迷們對於費迪南
德和其經紀人的嘴臉已經感到了厭惡。
