^^ http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsId=246783 We've Let Everyone Down Alan Smith believes the boo-boys have shaken Manchester United into action. United responded from defeat and catcalls against Blackburn on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Benfica on Tuesday. And Smith reckons the criticism they received for that 2-1 beating by Rovers from fans and pundits will probably do them good in the long run. The midfielder said: “I think the criticism helps you sometimes. No one ever learns anything from winning matches all the time. Sometimes it covers over cracks. Criticism hurts everybody and I think players at times need to take it personally. A few of us have done that. But also when you get criticised it builds bridges and bonds among players.” Smith revealed United held a major inquest on Sunday at their Carrington training ground. He added: “It does hurt when people boo you. Everyone probably thinks we just walked off that pitch on Saturday and forgot about it. I’ll tell you we didn’t. We spoke about it Sunday morning going out training and it wasn’t nice. There were no people more disappointed than us after the defeat to Blackburn.” Neil Custis, The Sun --------------------------------------------------------- We're Al Up For It Now Alan Smith has revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson inspired Manchester United to hit back after their mini-crisis. And Smith admits United's stars beat Benfica thanks to some serious soulsearching. Smith said: "The manager asked his big players like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ryan Giggs to stand up and be counted against Benfica. He said he needed his more experienced men to show their quality - and that's what they did."
