I'm staying at United, says Smith

Alan Smith says he is commited to staying at United next season, despite
reports linking him with several Premiership clubs.
Smith made his 19th Premiership start on Sunday in the 2-1 win over
Newcastle, one of the clubs supposedly interested in securing his
signature. But Smith insists the rumours have no truth in them.
"It's just newspaper talk," he said in an interview with United Review.
"I'm one hundred per cent happy here, simple as that.
"Every player wants to play football but everyone that comes to this
club knows nobody is guaranteed a place. If your performances aren't
good enough you've got to hold your hands up and let someone else have
their chance.
"Maybe people outside the club people don't realise that but those on
the inside know it is about the squad here. I'm amongst a great set of
lads and one hundred per cent happy."
The Yorkshiremen's tireless endeavour, which has quickly earned him
cult status among United's fans, was on open show against Newcastle.
The 24-year-old forward took the brunt of the attention from Newcastle's
Andy O'Brien and Jean Alain Boumsong, but the defensive duo would have
left Old Trafford well aware they had faced a physical competitor, no
doubt with bruises to prove it.
After his first season with the Reds, Smith has noticed an improvement
in his game and says he feels comfortable in the company of "world class
players" at the club.
Asked if he thinks he has developed his game since joining from Leeds,
Smith replied: "Definitely. The best thing for me is that I've come to
a club with world class players and I don't feel out of place playing
with them.
"When you come to a club as big as this it can be daunting, but you've
got to have confidence in your own ability that you can not just be part
of the club but that you can be a major part of the team. That's what I
came here to do."
