Hargreaves set to return against West Brom
Owen Hargreaves is set to make his long-awaited comeback against West Brom on
Saturday. The United midfielder has made only one first-team appearance since
undergoing a career-saving double knee operation in 2008. Even then, he only
came on as a last-minute substitute against Sunderland at the end of last
season. But, having battled his way back from tendinitis problems, the £17m
man is expected to be included in United’s squad against Roberto Di Matteo’
s Premier League new boys at Old Trafford. World famous surgeon Dr Richard
Steadman, who operated on Hargreaves, has confirmed he is at last ready to
return to action. “Owen should play some part on Saturday,” he said. “Our
physical therapist Luke O’Brien has been working very closely with United’s
coaches on his rehab. It’s been a long road back and there have been some
setbacks along the way. But I’ve got a lot of admiration for the way Owen
has responded – he’s never given up. Things are looking good for him now.”
Hargreaves’ return will be a major boost to Ferguson, who fought so hard to
sign him from Bayern Munich in 2007. He saw the England international as a
potential successor to Roy Keane as a midfield general – but has instead
been left frustrated as injuries have destroyed the last two years of his
career.

Elsewhere, The Sun's online edition claims United are preparing a £5million
raid for Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor. The 28 year-old pulled off a
string of stunning saves in Scotland's 3-2 defeat to world champions Spain,
in a game reportedly watched by Martin Ferguson, brother of Sir Alex.
