Van der Sar is crucial - Ferguson
28/8/05 9:16 AM
Keep Shouting At The Defenders, Fergie Tells Edwin
Sir Alex Ferguson is encouraging Edwin van der Sar to
keep giving his defenders "a rollicking".
The Dutchman has made what Ferguson describes as a major impact
since joining the club from Fulham this summer.
The manager wants van der Sar to use his experience to
organise United's defence and keep the defenders concentrating
for the full 90 minutes.
"Edwin has had a major impact," Sir Alex said.
"His experience shows through all the time.
In the last minute against Debreceni he was out there giving
one or two of them a rollicking.
"That's good because he is letting the defenders and the rest of the team
know the standards he is expecting. It's not a bad thing to see that
even if you're 3-0 up in a game in the last minute."
United have won all four of their opening matches this term
and are yet to concede a goal this season.
Compare that to the last campaign - Chelsea (lost 1-0),
Norwich (won 2-1), Blackburn (1-1), Everton (0-0) and Bolton (2-2)
- where the first five games hindered United's title hopes,
and Ferguson's team have given themselves a good grounding.
Van der Sar has been a crucial part of that.
"He's had a calming influence and shown true professionalism," he added.

Briefs: Edwin on form / Foster to remain on loan
30/8/05 8:19 AM
Van der sar happy with form Van der sar很滿意目前自己和球隊的表現
Edwin van der Sar has revealed he is hoping to keep his unbeaten record
going after maintaining his clean sheets run for Manchester United.
Summer signing van der Sar has already made an impact at Old Trafford
after being recruited by Sir Alex Ferguson to prevent
the leakage of goals which cost his side last season.
"This is what the manager wants from us," he said.
"Last year, United lost and drew too many games and lost too many games
in the first 10 matches of the season.
"It is a good start because we are winning we want to maintain this.
It is always nice to have clean sheets,
but the main thing is we are winning. That is the main focus."

Foster to stay out on loan
22歲年輕門將Foster預計在van der sar守門兩年期間在Watford學習經驗
Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster expects to spend
the next two years away from Old Trafford on loan.
Foster joined The Red Devils earlier in the summer from Stoke City
and was immediately shipped out to Watford on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old has impressed with The Hornets and looks like
being groomed as the long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar at United.
Having not played for Stoke before he signed for United,
Foster is benefiting from the chance to sample regular football
at Championship level. The shot-stopper believes he is likely to
spend the 2006/07 season out on loan before making a claim
for a place at Old Trafford.
"Alex Ferguson told me it was best if I went out on loan
and got another year's experience and maybe even do the same next year,"
said Foster. "Then in two years' time we'll assess the situation and,
if I've progressed, he'll give me a chance.
Edwin has got a two-year contract so that's the plan."
