Edwin: Playing away suits us

Although United go into Sunday's trip to Anfield shorn of
a number of defensive players, the presence of Edwin van der Sar
between the sticks offers solid solace.
雖然星期天前往Anfield的曼聯少了幾位後防大將(Keane, Heinze, Neville,
Brown, Fortune)，Edwin van der Sar在球門前穩定的存在給了防守些許慰藉。
The Dutch international conceded his first goal of the season
in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend,
but still had the last laugh against ex-Fulham team-mate Andy Cole.
Van der Sar made an incredible, point-saving stop in the final minute
from the City striker, somehow reacting to tip a fierce half-volley
over the bar.
Edwin told MUTV: "I was very happy with the save, of course,
especially in the last minute of the Derby to keep a point.
"It was an instant reflex. You don't think, you just put your arms
in the air and hope that you time it right. Luckily I deflected it over."
City's defensive approach at Old Trafford didn't aid the aesthetics
of the game, and van der Sar feels that visitors' lack of ambition
can often be United's undoing at home.
"Sometimes it's better to play teams away from home," he said.
"Because they're in their stadium and have to show their fans something,
so they open up more than at Old Trafford."

Van der Sar and his colleagues will certainly face a sterner test of
their defensive capabilities at Anfield this weekend,
particularly with Gabi Heinze joining fellow experienced
defenders Gary Neville and Wes Brown on the sidelines.
United make the 32-mile trip across the North West on the back of
a sixth clean sheet from seven games after keeping Villarreal at bay,
despite finishing the game with ten men.
A satisfied van der Sar said: "I thought we were really well organised,
we worked really hard as a team and kept possession for as long as possible."
