Argentina coach Jose Pekerman has stated that both Gabriel Heinze and
Lionel Messi are on course to make the World Cup finals.
The pair are overcoming lengthy injuries, but look set to make the final
23-man cut when it is revealed later this month.
Heinze has not played for seven months since injuring knee ligaments, but
he has been back in training for a number of weeks at Manchester United
and looks set to make it to Germany.
Likewise Messi looks set to make the trip as his recovery from a thigh
injury - which has sidelined him since March - is going well.
"Heinze and Messi should both be on the list as it looks like they will
be fully fit and ready for the World Cup," Pekerman said from Argentina's
training camp in Madrid.
"Heinze's knee has recovered perfectly and he is now suffering muscle
pains that are perfectly normal as he is back in full-time training
after an injury. We are keeping a close eye on him."
Pekerman was fully behind 18-year-old Messi's likely inclusion, despite
his lack of experience at international level.
"It is actions not age that count and the way he has emerged this season
has been extraordinary," he said.
"He has done very well and handled himself very well, in a difficult game
like Barcelona against Chelsea he was a decisive player."
