Vida Looks To Set A Trophy-Winning Precedent
Reds new-boy Nemanja Vidic has been a United player for just two months,
and already he is looking forward to playing in his first cup final.
The Reds travel to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Sunday for the team's
only realistic chance of winning silverware.
The 24-year-old defender may only be on the bench against Wigan if Rio
Ferdinand recovers from a tight hamstring to partner Wes Brown in the
centre of defence. But, tough-tackling 'Vida' ('vee-da') as he is known
to team-mates, will be ready if needed and he says lifting the Carling
Cup would be the perfect start to his Reds career.

"Winning a trophy is always a special memory in every player’s life,"
said the Serbia and Montenegro centre-half.
"I want to be at Manchester United for a long time, and I hope I can win
many trophies with the team."

Vidic has made six appearances for the Reds since his move from Spartak
Moscow was announced on Christmas Day.
He has started against Liverpool, Wolves, Blackburn and Portsmouth and
has shown promising signs of being a useful member of Sir Alex Ferguson's
squad.
Vidic says beating Wigan at the Millennium Stadium would cap off an
impressive Carling Cup campaign for the Reds.
"I’m very much looking forward to the match," he said. "The team has
given 100 percent in every match and winning a final would be the
crowning at the end of it."

Vidic also praised Alan Smith's attitude and believes the Yorkshireman,
who suffered a dislocated ankle and broken leg at Anfield, has the right
mentality to return ahead of schedule.
"I send Alan my very best wishes," he said. "He is in my thoughts and I
hope he gets better as soon as possible.
"I know deep down that he is a fantastic player who is mentally very
strong and I'm sure he'll overcome his injury and return to action
even sooner than the doctors expect."
