Giggs Meets Budding Young Readers

曼聯參與了英超從2003年四月開始辦的 Reading Stars 活動，
每個俱樂部都要選出他們的「閱讀冠軍」，
閱讀冠軍要選出自己最喜歡的成人書和童書，
並且和小朋友們見面，頒給他們 Reading Stars Certificare。
曼聯的閱讀冠軍Giggs和小朋友開心對談。
Giggsy選出的書分別是Nelson Mandela的"Long Walk To Freedom" (good choice!)
和童書Gene Kemp的"The Turbulent term of Tyke Tiler"。
Giggsy還愛看各種有關體育的書，如足球、高爾夫和Cricket，
最近他讀了Tiger Woods、Michael Vaughan和Freddie Flintoff的書。
他也是一個超級哈利波特迷！
Giggsy笑說道：
「隊裡比較老的球員，如我、Gary和Edwin Van der Sar看很多書。
我們比其他花更多時間看DVD和玩playstation的年輕球員更有文化素養！」 :P
Ryan Giggs met with budding young readers recently as part of
the Premier League’s Reading Stars’ scheme.
The programme, which started in April 2003, involves each
Premier League club nominating a Reading Champion, who in turn
selects their favourite children’s and adult books.
Ryan’s selections included Nelson Mandela’s autobiography
‘Long Walk To Freedom’ and Gene Kemp’s ‘The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tiler.'
Speaking about Mandela’s life story, Ryan said: “Reading about Mandela
is an inspiration to everyone, what he went through was horrendous,
yet he is still a man of compassion and his love for his people
is heart warming.”
Children from four local libraries – Broughton, Eccles, Altrincham
and Old Trafford - with whom the club have formed a partnership
for the project were in attendance to receive their
Reading Stars certificates from Ryan.
The United winger also took part in a question and answer session
during which he discussed some of his favourite books
and the funniest things he’s read about himself in the papers.
“I tend to read sports books not just about football but other sports
such as cricket and golf,” Giggs told the youngsters.
“I’ve recently read books on Tiger Woods, Michael Vaughan
and Freddie Flintoff and I’m also a big Harry Potter fan!
“The older lads in the team like myself, Gary Neville, Ole and Edwin
read quite a lot.
“We’re more cultured than the younger players who spend more time
watching DVD’s or playing on their playstations!”
