Ryan Giggs says he is confident of being fit for Manchester United's FA
Cup fifth round tie at Liverpool on Saturday.
The Wales international was withdrawn at half time during the 3-1 win at
Portsmouth, after playing a major part in the opening goal when Ruud van
Nistelrooy nodded in the rebound after his fine effort struck the underside
of the bar.
With Giggs likely to play in an unfamiliar central midfield position again
at Anfield, a position he has performed in with distinction on fleeting
occasions this term, the experienced campaigner is relishing the occasion.
"I felt a little twinge on Saturday," he told Sky Sports News.
"We were 3-0 up at half time and had the chance to rest it. Hopefully,
training will go alright this week and I'll be okay for Saturday.
"It is one of the big games - Liverpool-United, no matter what's at stake,
but obviously a place in the next round is vital. It's two very good teams
so hopefully it'll be a very good game.
"I mean they've all been tight games, a goal separating them and I think
it'll probably be the same on Saturday. Maybe a mistake or a bit of magic
will win the game."
Giggs was asked if he would rather win the cup tie or finish in second
place, above Liverpool, in The Premiership.
"Both really," he answered. "I think you want to win every competition
you enter.
"The FA Cup is really special, especially to United as we've won it on
so many occasions, but obviously we're not thinking about second at the
moment.
"We're just trying to win each game we can in The Premiership and see
where it gets us."
United are taking over 6,000 travelling supporters to Merseyside for
the crunch clash.
