Patience Was Key To Victory - Bardsley
Phil Bardsley was delighted with the outcome of his first
Champions League start in the 2-1 victory over Benfica.
The 20-year-old produced an impressive display filling in at right-back
for the injured Gary Neville and it was Bardsley who won the corner
from which Ruud van Nistelrooy slotted home United's crucial winner.

"When the ball comes into the box you only want one man to be
on the end of it and that's Ruud," the Salford-born defender told MUTV.

"He's done it so many times for us in the past and thankfully
he did it again on Tuesday.

"I was delighted to get a run-out," added Bardsley.
"It's a fantastic competition and you gain great experience
from playing alongside a player like Rio.

"All the older lads set a great example for the younger players
and I thought myself and Kieran [Richardson] adapted well.

Despite leaving it late, Bardsley believes van Nistelrooy's winner
was down to United's ability not to push the panic button
after Benfica had equalised on the hour-mark through Simao Sabrosa's
stunning freekick.
"You always have to be patient in Europe," he insisted.
"We had to dig in and in the end we got a great result.

"Saturday's result was disappointing but the lads bounced back
and hopefully we can maintain that against Fulham this weekend."

Bard Hits The Right Note
Phil Bardsley is looking to cash in after getting his big break
against Benfica. Bardsley, 20, was still buzzing with excitement
as he said: "The manager told me I was playing an hour before kick-off.
It is all about taking your chance and I hope he thinks I did that.
Now I want to start at Fulham."
