Ruud admits shock at Keane departure

Ruud van Nistelrooy was left stunned by the announcement of
Roy Keane's departure from Old Trafford, and claims the club
has bid farewell to its greatest ever player.
A joint statement on Friday confirmed that the Irishman
would leave United with immediate effect by mutual consent.
But van Nistelrooy, who skippered the Reds in the 3-1 win
over Charlton on Saturday, says United have lost the club's
greatest ever player and the best player he has ever played alongside.
"Yesterday we heard the news and it was a big shock," Ruud told Sky Sports.
"It was a sad day.
"I needed time to deal with it and try to get over it...
but that's impossible to do in such a short space of time
because Roy made such an impact on all of us."
Asked how the club would fare without Keane, Ruud said:
"It's difficult to say, it's all so fresh.
"Roy will always be remembered as the greatest player that has played
for the club. His qualities as a leader and as a player will always
stay within us.
"I've worked and trained with him for four and half years
and he is the best player I've ever played with.
It's just a shame that it stops now."
Van Nistelrooy took his Premiership tally to ten with a double strike
against Charlton. His second half goals and Alan Smith's first-half strike
were enough to see off Alan Curbishly's side in the first match of
the post-Keane era.
"We had to try to put the news about Roy out of our minds,"
the Dutchman added. "The game came quickly and we were all motivated
to do well and to make sure we got a good victory."
