Keane Calls It A Day
Roy Keane has retired from international football, following the Republic
of Ireland's failure to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Finals.
隨著愛爾蘭無緣晉身明年的世界杯決賽週，基恩亦宣佈退出國際賽事。
The United captain issued the following statement on Friday evening:
"Like all football supporters in the country, I am disappointed the Republic
of Ireland failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, despite the efforts
of Brian Kerr, his staff and the squad who made an endeavour to qualify.
「就像國家隊所有的支持者，我對於國家隊未能打入世界杯決賽週感到十分失望。」
"I believe recent criticism of Brian in the media is unjust and unfair. I
would like to thank the players and staff for their efforts.
對於今次球隊未能打入決賽週，領隊卡爾被傳媒批評，基恩則對卡爾表示支持。
「我相信對於卡爾的批評是不公平的。
我在此感謝領隊、其他職員和球員對球隊的付出。」
"Much as I would like to continue playing for my country, I feel the time
has come to retire from international football and concentrate on domestic
football for whatever is the remainder of my career.
「雖然我很希望可以繼續效力國家隊，不過我也感到是時候退下來，而在職業球員生涯
餘下時間專注球會級賽事。」
"I would like to thank everyone for the support they have given me throughout
my international career."
Keane collected 66 caps during 14 years as an international, from his debut
against Chile in May 1991 to his final appearance against France last month.
Sadly, he missed the Republic of Ireland's last two World Cup qualifiers
after breaking a bone in his foot during United's clash with Liverpool.
