Scholes: I Want To Win More Trophies
賽季剛開始三個月狀況低迷的Scholes,
終於在這幾場比賽慢慢展現他巔峰時的身手,
Scholes表示對球隊的未來有信心,
希望能跟著年輕球員一起努力,陪他們一起增加經驗,
為新一代的曼聯贏得更多榮譽。
Paul Scholes is back on form and determined to win more silverware
with United.
The 30-year-old, who signed a contract extension until 2009 in the summer,
has been resurgent in recent weeks.
The midfield playmaker is hoping to add to his already impressive
medal collection as part of a new generation of players at Old Trafford.
"I'm optimistic and hoping we can win things," Scholes said in
an interview with United Review ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Wigan.
"We've got a lot of good players and some young players coming through,"
he added. "As the squad gains experience hopefully we can keep
getting closer to winning that league again.
"There's a challenge from a personal point of view to keep my place
in the team. It’s up to me to make sure that I do that and
try to play well every week."
Scholes is the first to admit that his performances in
the first three months of the season were not up to his usual standards.
"The last couple of weeks have been all right but before that
it wasn’t looking too great," he conceded. "I've been happier
with my form in the last few games and hopefully I’ve turned
a bit of a corner now."
The upshot of some impressive displays in United’s midfield
have also seen him back on the scoresheet. Scholes followed up
his first goal in seven months, against Portsmouth, with another
in the defeat to Benfica last week.
"I suppose it was a bit of a relief [to score against Portsmouth] and now,
hopefully, I can start getting a few more goals."
Scholes scored 20 in the 2002/03 season – the last time United
won the Premiership – but that was as a more advanced midfielder,
playing just behind Ruud van Nistelrooy. However, his return to
a deeper midfield role is a move he is happy with.
"I am enjoying it," he said. "I'd say it's the position
where I've had most of my success at United. Playing down the years
in central midfield I’ve really enjoyed it, whether alongside Roy (Keane),
Nicky (Butt) and now Alan (Smith). I've been in that position
for the past five or six games and it's been good."
