週三曼聯出戰聯賽杯半決賽的當天，俱樂部官員不得不出面澄清了一條有關紅魔中場
斯科爾斯健康的「謠言」。自從在去年12月28日客場2比2戰平伯明翰的聯賽中被撞中頭部
以來，這位30歲的曼聯老將就因為嚴重的偏頭疼缺席至今，甚至沒有隨隊做客埃伍德公園
，更讓人懷疑「斯科爾斯已經局部失明」的坊間傳言可能並非杜撰。
為穩定軍心，弗格森授意俱樂部新聞官在本週三賽前向媒體通報了斯科爾斯的病情：
「保羅(斯科爾斯)只是有一隻眼睛的視線有點模糊，他的眼球並沒有出現囊腫，更沒有任
何程度的失明。當然，在他能夠完全看清之前，我們不會讓他參加任何比賽。」不過無論
爵爺還是俱樂部官員都沒有提到他可能會在何時康復。

However, United officials have insisted Scholes' problem is nothing more
than a slight amount of blurred vision.
"Paul has blurred vision in one eye," said a United spokesman.
"He has definitely not got a cyst and he is not suffering from any degree
of blindness but clearly he cannot play until his vision is completely clear."

Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson insists there are no worries
over Paul Scholes' long-term fitness.
The former England international is currently sidelined with blurred
vision, but Ferguson has reacted with anger at reports suggesting
Scholes may be going blind.
It is not the first time Scholes has been rumoured to have health
problems as one point earlier in his career it was claimed he was
suffering with cancer.
Ferguson is eager not to make too much of the current scare, which
came about after Scholes took a blow to the head against Birmingham
on December 28.
"What are we dealing with here? Three years ago people were doorstepping
his parents saying he had cancer, now they are saying he is going blind,"
said Ferguson.
"The situation is quite straightforward. He has blurred vision and until
that clears up, we cannot play him, which I would not do anyway."

近來有消息稱曼聯中場斯科爾斯面臨雙目失明的危險；日前紅魔主帥弗格森正式否認
了這一不實傳聞。
在與伯明翰城的比賽中31歲的斯科爾斯發生了視力模糊的狀況，從那兒以後他就再也
沒有為曼聯上過場，因此媒體盛傳前英格蘭國腳眼疾異常嚴重，甚至有雙目失明的危險。
然而弗格森對此嗤之以鼻，他說：「坦率的講，我只能向你提供醫務人員的檢測報告
；斯科爾斯僅僅是視力模糊而已，在痊癒以前他的確不能上場比賽。如果醫生告訴我他將
失明，我會非常緊張；然而現在我只感到憤怒。」
實際上2003年媒體就曾熱炒斯科爾斯健康狀況欠佳，弗格森對於某些小報可以追求轟
動效應也感到無可奈何：「三年前他們（媒體記者）在斯科爾斯雙親家門口聲稱球員身患
癌症。萬能的主啊，現在的媒體都怎麼了？！現在我告訴你斯科爾斯的身體並無大礙，他
僅僅是視力模糊而已，這並不意味著他將去世！」
弗格森希望斯科爾斯能在一月底以前傷癒復出，但是他表示不會刻意要求隊員上場比
賽：「醫生說斯科爾斯幾周後就能痊癒，我聽他們的。只要他沒有完全康復，作為主教練
我肯定不會讓他上場比賽。」
