Cristiano Ronaldo says he has yet to decide on his club future, and will not
talk about it until Portugal's involvement in Euro 2008 is over.
The 23-year-old Manchester United star is a summer target for Real Madrid.
"I haven't decided yet about my future," he said after Portugal's opening 2-0
win against Turkey.
"I'll only do that after the European Championships are over. I don't want to
talk about this again until the competition is over."
Ronaldo fuelled further speculation about his future on Thursday when he told
a Brazilian journalist that he, "would like to play for Real Madrid but only
if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them".
The winger has a contract with United, which runs until 2012, but has so far
refused to state publicly that he is to stay with the club.
United team-mate Rio Ferdinand, however, believes Ronaldo will still be at
Old Trafford next season, despite all the speculation.
"As a footballer of Manchester United and as a fan, I would like to think he
will stay, and I am quite positive of him staying," Ferdinand told Radio 5
Live's Sportsweek.
"I haven't spoken to him but I just feel he will. He is at a great club, with
great team-mates and great fans who adore him. Hopefully he makes that
decision that we all want and he will stay.
"All the rest of the players are signing up. In the last couple of months
myself, Wes Brown and Michael Carrick have all signed up. I think Patrice
Evra has agreed a new contract, Wayne Rooney is staying, Edwin van der Sar
has extended his contract.
"Everyone is singing from the same hymn book, and it would be nice if we can
keep this team together because there is a great opportunity to be really
successful over the coming years."
Portugal team-mate Ricardo Carvalho, whose own future at Chelsea is
uncertain, also believes Ronaldo is likely to stay with United.
"I think he is happy in England and he's doing very well," Carvalho said. "He
has a contract with Manchester United, so he has to play in England."
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari praised Ronaldo's performance in
Saturday's win over Turkey, when he took over the captaincy in the second
half following the withdrawal of Nuno Gomes.
"Cristiano was very motivated, very determined and that's what we expected
from him," Scolari said.
