Ferguson pondering Ronaldo break

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that
he will give Manchester United winger
Cristiano Ronaldo a break at some point
in the season - but not just yet.

The 19-year-old has made 16 appearances this campaign,
following a hectic summer of Euro 2004 and Olympic football for Portugal.

And United's boss told the Manchester Evening News:

"There is going to be a spell where Cristiano needs a rest.

"I've no definite plans - he's okay now but we are assessing him all the time."

Ferguson was rewarded for handing Ronaldo a three-week break last season
with a series of brilliant performances towards the end of the campaign,
and he intends on following the same path this year.

"It is a question of picking the moment - last year we sent him home
 for a break at Christmas and we will have to see what we do this time,"
 Ferguson added.

Ferguson could be tempted to leave Ronaldo out of Saturday's Old Trafford
clash with Charlton given the need for maximum points to guarantee
qualification for the Champions League knockout phase against Lyon
next Tuesday.

Ryan Giggs is waiting to return after a couple of recent substitute appearances
, while Darren Fletcher is also in the picture after playing in the 3-1 win
at Newcastle.
