Everything is already tided up, for if there is something I loathe it is an untidy house. Nuno is smoking at the kitchen’s window, for that is the only place in my house where anyone is allowed to indulge in that terrible habit, even then with a lot of goodwill from me... I admit I am anti-tobacco. The sight of a smoker is almost despicable as the sensation of having to put up with other people's smoke. When I am in a public place, I have no choice but to bear the smoke of those around me – even though, fortunately, recent measures being taken in order to introduce smoking restrictions in all public places are already in force in England. But there is no smoking in my house. I do not deserve to be contaminated inside my own house, and I do not like it, I never did, and it bothers me a lot. Even allowing a small restricted smoking area, by the kitchen window, is benevolent on my part. But, with the rain and cold that are usual outside the house, I do not want to be that cruel. So, there is Nuno beside the window, which must be open, blowing smoking out into the garden. My bed awaits me, for I do not like to sleep less than eight hours a night. I usually go to sleep between 11:30 pm to midnight, and get up between 7:30 to 8 am, and I only break this routine occasionally, when the next day is my rest day. On those days, I might go out for dinner, in order to vary the daily routine. I go up to my room, where there are some candles, and I get ready to go to sleep. I realize that tonight I cannot watch MUTV (Manchester United's TV channel, which at midnight always broadcasts the latest club match) to watch the game against Aston Villa. This is an old habit, viewing the most recent game Manchester United actions on the field, I look at what I have done, right or wrong. I work out if, in a certain situation, I should have given the ball or risked a dribble, if I should have taken a shot or made a key pass. On that particular game I scored my 13th goal of the season, but I could have scored another. I want to watch, in detail, what happened, to draw my own conclusions and rectify everything I think can be rectified. ─────────────────────────────────────── Dribbles, free kicks and goals I am not a perfectionist, but I like to feel that things are done well. More important than that, endless need to learn, to improve, to evolve, not only to please the coach and the fans, but also to feel satisfied with myself. It is my conviction that there are no limits to learning, and that it can never stop, no matter what our age. Evolution occurs at a daily pace, and covers all aspects of a human being's life. As far as I am concerned, I wish to mature even more, as a player. I want to gain experience and to acquire more knowledge. Every person can be better than they are at the present moment. I know that I can be better. Therefore I try to learn more and more and put what I learn to use year upon year. I can, for instance, learn how to express myself correctly in English, and I may still learn French. In my professional capacity, I can score more goals and make more key passes. The goals I have scored are a consequence of the confidence I try to improve every day, also the fact that I am able to get into the penalty area more frequently, can be put down as part of my development. The knack of taking free kicks for instance, grew out of my own persistence, when I was still a boy starting to play football: I began trying on my own initiative, again and again, and I realized I might even be good at it, so the coaches started to encourage me even more to practice those moves. Usually at the end of training, I would stay and shoot at goal, persistent and always preoccupied about improving my technique with every move I made. I continued to work on that aspect of my game with both Sporting and Manchester United. Each football player has an individual style, and I have mine. Thanks to a lot of work and my desire for perfection, I have a technique of my own for taking direct free kicks. The secret? I will not reveal it, for I would be giving a trump card to my opponents… I can state only that the success of failure at the moment of taking the free kick is directly related to the position of the body, the way one runs towards the ball and the way one positions one's feet. At the moment, I think only about which side of the net I am going to aim for. I look at the ball, I look at the net and I say to myself: "take the kick, Ronaldo," then I shoot. Sometimes it ends well, other times not so well. At Manchester United we have Giggs – who is very good at taking the free kicks – Rooney, and me. In the Portuguese national team, besides myself, there is Simao, Deco and Petit. It all depends on where the foul was committed an the area of the field where that particular player excels in their own speciality of direct free kicks. A similar thing occurs with my dribbling, which happen by pure instinct. The technique I have today I was born with – giving me the nickname "Abelhinha" (Little Bee) when I was in Andorinha – but obviously it has been perfected over the years. I practice dribbles non-stop during training, and later I try to apply them to the game, but I do not do it at home. Do not think that I spend my days with a ball, inventing this or that dribble. What comes from my feet comes out naturally. Obviously, if I am somewhere and there is a ball, I immediately start kicking it and playing with it, because I have the "itch". But dribbles happen by instinct. I want to develop in every way, not just in a specific aspect. When a person is ambitious, they will never feel satisfied with what they have, with what they do, or even worse, with what they have done. The past is past. What matter is the present, as it is also important to acquire more grounding for the future. The important thing is aiming to do even better, and becoming even better. Learning and evolving are my mottos for life. That is why I deeply value mixing with people who are more experienced. For it is by this method that I learn something new. Even as little as that might be, I am sure that it is worth it, for I become a little richer. The awareness that I am a public figure leads me to feed this desire for constant improvement because I know that many people look up to me, they point at my success and wish to follow in my footsteps. And I want to be a good example. -- ★ ╔╦═╮╔╮ ╭╔╮ ╭╔╦═╮ ╔╮╔╮╭╦═╮╔╮═╮ ☆ ☆ ╠╬╦╯╠╣ ║╠╣ ║╠╣ ║ ╠╣╠╣╠╬═╣╠╣ ║ ★ ★ ╰╝╰╯╰╝═╯╰╝═╯╚╯═╯ ╰╰╯╯╰╝ ╰╰╝ ╰ ☆ SCORING MACHINE︰ Ruud van Nistelrooy ★ ╔╮═╮╭╦╦╮╭╦═╮╭╦╦╮╔╦═╮╔╮ ╔╦═╮╭╦═╭═╦╮╮ ╔╮ ╠╣ ║ ╠╣ ╚╩╦╮ ╠╣ ╠╬╣ ╠╣ ╠╬╦╯╠╣ ║ ╠╣╚═╬╣ ╰╝ ╰╰╩╩╯╰═╩╝ ╚╝ ╚╩═╯╰╩═╯╰╝╰╯╰╩═╯═╩╯╰═╩╝ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.170.100.213
